Colonial Bible Book Stand

18th Century replica of a handcrafted adjustable and fully collapsible Bookstand. Was used by traveling preachers, who administered to the populace of the early Colonies. The stand was purposefully small enough to fit a saddlebag, be easily transportable and support religious and other books used at the time.

It is believed that these unique stands may have been made by local cabinetmakers, who did not have readily available costly metal hinges, and instead handcrafted wooden hinges to lower cost and retain functionality. Of course today, the opposite is the case, wooden hinges are more costly than metal hinges. The wooden hinges make this product totally unique and one of a kind. A perfect gift for the discriminating person.
